What is GLA:D Canada?
Originally developed in Denmark, GLA:D is an 8-week education and exercise program proven to help those who suffer from osteoarthritis in their hip(s) and/or knee(s). Research has shown that participants of this program report less pain and reduced use of pain medication. Participants also report being more mobile and physically active after completing the GLA:D Program.
The GLA:D Program: What to Expect!
Denise Semple & Associates is proud to offer the GLA:D Canada Program to our Burlington patients. Our highly trained physiotherapists will guide you through the 8-week program. The program is structured into two sections: Education & Exercise
EDUCATION (2 Classes)
Osteoarthritis: risk factors & symptoms
Current available treatments
How to manage your symptoms
How exercise can help your condition
How to cope with daily activities
EXERCISE (12 Sessions)
Warm-up, circuit training, cool down
Build muscle strength through functional activity
How to control your movements
Increase joint stability to reduce pain
Apply exercises to daily activities
Our physiotherapists will measure your symptoms at your first visit and compare to your progress at 3 months and then 12 months post-program.
